The International Navistar VT 275 4.5L V6, or 4.5L Power Stroke Diesel, was produced for the 2006-2010 Model Year Ford LCF (Low Cab Forward), and the International CF500 / CF600 / CityStar Cab Forward trucks. The VT275 4.5L is based on the 6.0L Power Stroke (International VT365) – it’s basically a 6.0L V-8 with two cylinders chopped off. The 4.5L engine is good for 200 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. From 2007 forward, the VT275 was brought up to EPA 2007 emission standards and named the MaxxForce 5. Rumor has it that by 2010, the new EPA emission standards were just too difficult to comply with while keeping acceptable engine performance, so the 4.5L Power Stroke was discontinued.

The VT275 / MaxxForce 5 uses a sequential twin-turbocharger system, instead of the single variable-geometry turbocharger used in the VT365. The original equipment turbocharger was manufactured for Ford and International Navistar by BorgWarner, and is part of BorgWarner’s Regulated 2-Stage, or R2S family of turbochargers. There are 2 versions of the R2S turbocharger that are found in the Ford LCF and International Cab Forward trucks.  We will provide some information to help you make sure you get the right replacement turbocharger, the first time.

If you know your Ford, International Navistar, or BorgWarner Part Number, we can use that to match your turbo exactly. That is the most sure-fire way to make sure you get the right turbo. However, there is a way to ID your Navistar VT275 turbocharger visually:

Next, here is a look at the TUR-100449 turbocharger installed on the engine, viewed from the top.  In this image, you can see that the outlet to the charge air cooler sits above the turbocharger crossover tube:

When viewed from the top of the engine, if your outlet to the charge air cooler sits above the turbocharger crossover tube, then you need our part number TUR-100449. If your outlet to the charge air cooler sits below the turbocharger crossover tube, then you need our part number TUR-100100.
